Any ideas?

I have made a mistake in getting my domain from hostgator. Not only they tried to swindle me, by registering my domain on someone else name three days later, they ended up being a total as****les. I still have the domain name and want to change the NS to my private NS, but whatever they are doing messes everything up. The domain only partly switched to the new NS.

It worked fine for about an hour and than I got nothing but "server not found" error. Hostgator once again will not respond to my ticket requests which tells me they screwing around, again. Short of transferring the domain name to another registrar is there anything else I can do? I would transfer it if I have to, but I have already wasted a whole lot of time and money on the damn hostgator.

Been there. They are seriously not willing to help.
I caught them trying to register my domain to someone else 3 days after I have registered it. They've tried giving some cheesy excuses. I think I am just going to give up on this one and let it rot. I never give up, but I have paying clients that are waiting. I'll have to use another one for that project. And as soon as I can I'll transfer this one to another registrar and build a website for it specifically against HG. (just kidding).

best bet is to submit a press release and hopefully the media will pick it up and then hostgator will have to sort it out. try eworldwire to submit a basic press release. the free press release services don't work.

Thank You. I tried going through the BBB, but they are no good. They just closed it and said that I have not responded. They didn't even try to contact me.

I got the site working finally. Now I just have to finish setting everything else up.

I did. But the only response I have ever gotten was making me go in circles. A good lesson for everyone else outthere: Stay as far as possible from Hostgator.

Thank you all. I have sort of corrected the problem. I am just going to wait untill 60 days expire and then transfer the domain to another registrar. I have account with the namecheap.com and am finding them very good. They have, in my opinion, the most options I have seen.

Have to agree with that - namecheap offer a fantastic service, really simplistic user friendly and cheap at the same time!

If only they had a referral scheme - I've told about 200 people to register domain names with them!

I've recently registered a domain there with .ca and it was 2 times cheaper than registering with a Canadian company. It also seems to me that when I change DNS on my domains the propagation is really fast.

Why don't you get domain registration from ENOM. We use their service, so far no problems.

Enom is where it actually is registered. HostGator is their reseller.

You have a problem at reseller end. I had the similar problem with gisol, they still have 3 of my domains hijacked with them. I'm still paying them to keep my sites working.

Contact ENOM directly. Try to get an Executive on the phone. Emails in these cases don't help much.

Some good ideas, but you need to call them via telephone and inform that the FTC (federal trade commission) will be contacted unless this is resolved. BBB is great, but the FTC scares that hell out of businesses.

I will be surprised if you will be willing to re-register it when it expires.
