WordPress Comment Spam

Hey all,

My blog at http://blog.mattsprojects.net has had about 9 spam comments posted in the past 2 days, and going up it seems...

Luckily, WordPress has caught them as "spam" and has put them in moderation queue, but... I don't want to moderate these comments all the time.

Is there a way to stop this? Maybe a captcha?

I've never used wordpress so i'm not sure, try looking up some wordpress documents over at they website.

Ok , To Troubleshoot this problem just verify the following Things :-

Go to Options and then click on Discussion and verify if the settings of Before a comment appears are right.

It's not an error, it's just that a spam bot is attracted to my lovely blog

Matt -

Are you using akismet - its included in wordpress 2 and seems to catch everything on my blog. i've had about 9 spams in the last few days on my site as well.

This seems to stop the spam from being published in the first place. From the akistmet faq:

When a new comment, trackback, or pingback comes to your blog it is submitted to the Akismet web service which runs hundreds of tests on the comment and returns a thumbs up or thumbs down.

When the plugin catches something as spam it saves it in the database for 15 days in case you want to check it out manually and then automattically deletes it. In the unlikely event something gets incorrectly identified as spam you can correct it and it submits the "false positive" back to Akismet for analysis and improvement of our system. If a spam comment happens to get through and you mark it as spam within WordPress, it does the same thing. Akismet becomes more effective the more you use it.
