Angry Domain buying scam

Hi everyone,

I got the following email this morning and was quite pleased that someone was interested in buying a domain I registered earlier in the week:

Quote:
Hello,

I think you have not sold your domain name yet. I'm very interested in it. Can you send your price for the domain?

Did you get offers from other people already?

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,
Edward Kramer Ph.D.
President
BN Engineering

Anyway, I was a bit suspicious as the email was not sent from his supposed company but from a free web based email address but I emailed back nevertheless saying that the domain in question was still for sale and that I was open to offers for it. I then received this reply:
Quote:
I need to know the lowest price you can accept.

What is your price range: $15,000 or $20,000 or even higher?

This really set alarm bells ringing as I didn't think that the domain was worth that much so I did a quick google search for some of the text from the email and it turns out that it is a scam. Apparently the guy emails back after you accept a price and asks you to get your domain appraised by a certain company - he then gets a comission and you never hear from him again.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you all know just in case you get any similar emails in the future.

Simon

I'd play with him Simon, he's got your e-Mail address anyway so it won't hurt. Tell him you was thinking more along the lines of $50,000 and that you've got three other sites you want to off load aswell and see what he comes back with. Could be a laugh!

I'm not suggesting anyone takes it seriously, I'm just saying that some prick is trying to play Simon and it would be funny if Simon was to play him.

Just don't BUY anything he suggests you to buy If you have to spend any money then don't do it.

He probably owns the appraisal company(s) and just will end up opting out of buying your domains. It's a very well known scam...
