If a server is located in the UK, and you are located in the UK, the speed of the website is much more efficient then a server in the USA. Internet connection speed is again the same issue, if you have Internet connection in the USA, and your located in the UK, connection is slower. So its best to choose a web host based in your country for faster performance.

This is clearly up to you. But if most of your visitors are from the USA, I recommend getting hosting from a US based host. Either way, if you get hosting in the UK, US users will still have somewhat fast performances when visiting your website, or vice versa.
