Default Backlinks - isn't their page pr more important than their site pr?

Guys, and gals. Just an amateur - well until I started asking you folks questions and now I'm a fully fledged pro, obviously. Nearly.

Is it the site pr or the page pr carrying the link back to you which matters?

I started getting our vacation rental property website listed in relevant sections of pr4+ directories. But the pages linking to us were always pr0. A few directories show up in our Google/Yahoo backlinks but nowhere near the 150 or so I listed. Some carried a lot of links per page, others carried few.

Now I've been posting articles recently in high pr (5+) articles directories but the links back are always pr0. A couple of them show up on google backlinks but not many. But we always get a page link to ourselves

Jumpenjehosophat always says that the fewer the links on the page linking to you the more powerful the link.

Any views gratefully received.

Of course, the page is more important.
But usually if the main page is high, the inner pages should also follow suit.

Your site will get a share from the PR of the linking page and from the mainpage. As Jumpen says the fewer the links your share will be bigger. The PR of a page is usually distributes among the links placed on that. It is not important that they are external or outbound links. As I know they get equal shares.

If a high PR site links to your site from a PR 0 inner page that is also useful, because this link is supposed to be recognised soon by search engines, and the linking page has the chance to get higher PR in the near future.

Wonderful and very clear answer Bagi, thanks. I could spend years puzzling over this on my own.
