![]() | Hey all I have read many articles stating that Google frowns on the marketing of links How can the search engines tell the difference? A better question would be is this fact or fiction? And does this hold any merit? Any Thoughts? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, it's true that Google does not like the link selling market, they suggest that if you were to sell a link that you use the no follow attribute within the anchor of purchased links. But, they claim to be able to tell the difference between purchased links and natural links, but how could they? If it were truly a big issue, then either noone would by or sell links, or Google would be ignored, and they would ultimately meet their demise. So there is really nothing to worry about until you have yourself a PR9 or PR10 site, that's when they start paying a lot of attention to you. |

![]() | Also buying links in volume will be very unlikley to be conected subject wise so not have the power that links of the same subject do. |

![]() | I don't think you have to worry if you have a pr4. Just as precaution I have taken off certain words off my site that may indicate that I sell links just in case. But unless you are a big fish I would doubt you have to worry. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, Google like link exchanges, for the simple fact it allows then to crawl the web easier. I think the reason why they don't like the link market is because, people clicking links takes a certain amount of their searches away, for example, if you was on a site and saw a text link with the anchor, "Cheap Hacksaws". Rather than go to Google and search, a lot of people would simply click on the link. But unless you are buying links in mass volume, say for instance 100 links a day, Google would probably think you were buying links, but I am sure that is the only way they would know. There is no real way of telling the difference between a natural link and a sold one. Regards, Kieran Taylor. |

![]() | Just to add my "two cents" recently read "Matt Cutts" blog and he explained a little about google's stand on Link exchange http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/text-links-and-pagerank/ Might be worth a look! |

![]() | Google doesnt really "like" link exchanges. Nothing can be far away from truth! They like natural one way links. Participating in link exchanges can be bad to the site, depending on who you link to. Buying the link need not be bad, but selling can be. if your site links to 20 unrelated sites, there is always a chance of inviting some penalty. |

![]() | Still in a stage of true-or-fiction ...Umm, Let me guess, the google persons want the search to be most reliable as possible and give the page that people seach as relevant as possible ,even his "adwords" also need sharp SE to hit directly to target ads. and compete well with yahoo ,so anything that make SE unreliable or irrelevant or give useless results should be fixed ,and buying links also sometimes was abused ,with big company ,to be on a high PR site without relevancy that should be fixed by google person as well. They at GG just change this and that to sharpen the Search Results. No major facelift( or start to have ?) |

| Wish you were here! | I don't think they will do anything yet. If not they would have clamped down these sites selling links. In any case, it's tough to tell the difference. Regards, Edmund Ng |

According to Matt Cutts, there is now a system in place to detect most paid links.
