Default Advice needed please - being threatened with solicitors

Registered a .com web domain last week, the owner of the domainname with .co.uk has contacted me demanding I transfer the ownership into his name before he gets his solicitor onto me.

Should I be worried, can this happen

If the dot com was available and you bought it, no problem.
It the owner of the .co.uk wants it he can make you an offer if he wants it.
Provided your not doing a mirror site of his, then let him waste his money on solicitors.
Nothing to worry about. I would send him a mail with the price you want for the domain name(start very high $2000)

Thanks!

Are you genuinely sure that this is the case though as he said he is refusing to speak to me and I will hear from his solicitor.

I have just used a government patent checker on the UK's gov website and their is no listing of the name as a registered trademark.

Do you think A) he's bulls***ing or B) that he might be doing it but hasn't got a clue.

Thanks again!

dont worry, from what you have said you have done nothing wrong.

Most companies if they dont want any other .com etc in the same name will register them all anyway. This guys not done that and obviously wished he had.
I ahve quite a few domains that could still be bought in a .com etc version, if i want them i gotta register them, i cant stop anyone else doing the same.

He's said that his domain name (company name) is a registered trademark.

But as I said, their is no listing of it.

Think it's some chump trying to pull a fast one

The company name may well be registered but that give him no right to all the domain names.
I run a small company called univeral products, but i have no legal right to any domain name using this name ie universalproducts.co.uk.

I bought a site a comminty chat website and i bought the domain name ukfaceparty.com they contacted there solisitor and he demanded the domain name but i also was offered money for the domain name as long as the site did not morror theres i had solisitors papers through the post telling me that the site i had was very much like theres although i bought it and not made it i did not get any money for the domain name as i just gave it to them but i was wrong if your site as not be made to look like theres you can tell them you want an offer on the domain name because they should have bought it whilst it was available. not panick keep your cool and dont give up wait for an offer on the domain name. can you pm me the domain name you bought and the domain name of theres so i can take a look.

ok i have taken a look at both sites and your is totally different and sites are doing different things he is trying to get you to hand over the domain name dont do it tell him your contacting your solisitor or let him contact one your in the right you have the domain name he wants he can make you an offer or if he doesnt want to do that keep it if you do get a letter from his solisitor they will be trying to make you give it up you are in the right here. he wants it tell him to pay for it.

Thankyou so much!

I thought that myself, their are no C copyright symbols anywhere and I think if you are declaring it as a trademark and copyrighted material, they have to advertise this fact, otherwise how are you to know - it's like at Mc'Ds, they always have the TM after the burger names etc.

Thanks very much to everyone who's helped on here - good job their are places like this to come for us newbies, or we'd never get anywhere!
