Link Building is the way of promoting site such as directory submission, classified ads, article submission and a lot more . Link exchange is the way of exchange link to other site and it is part of the link building strategies.

The both way is not easy for new sites (exept submission to the directories). Link exchange is more diffical as your site is new and hasn't PR yet. But I find it importand when sites are relevant.

Some one please define what is the difference between Link building and Link exchange.
I've got confused!

Thanks for the tips and I like the website you posted, very useful.

I have 2 websites and I use www.linkmarket.com to exchange links with other websites. I knew before that they weren't as good as one way links but I do have a question.

If you site has lots of outgoing/exchanged links then would it ever bring your search engine ranking or pagerank down?

Thanks
Calum

I think WebGeek is right on, saying that the most important thing is to have quality content. If you have good content, the rest will take care of itself.

Still, a certain amount of link exchanging can't hurt, especially when you are starting out. People have to find your website somehow, right?

With my directory i always go with 1-way or 3 way links.

But with my other sites i choose reciprocal (2-way) and 1-way links.

For reciprocal i would prefer only related sites.

1-way links aren't always an option you can't make everyone give you a 1-way link and there are good sites out there who will only link to you if you link back. You can think of reciprocal links as extra links that you would not have otherwise.

So i use both types of links.

If you want to get some traffic, Link Exchanges is good choice, However if you want to get high PR, you have to buy some related links
