How so? Wouldn't one-way links to your site demonstrate that your site is MORE valuable, not LESS?

The best web sites out there engage in link building. Link building, means building links to your site. That doesn't mean you have to email webmasters asking for links, although on occasion, you may do that. There are many methods, but the best is "linkbait", which means you create juicy content, whether its a free tool or reference, interesting blog, photo gallery, or anything else that people can't help but link to. You can also do small things to start like make (intelligent & relevant) comments on blogs (preferably ones that don't use nofollow on comments), place links in the signature on forums, create & submit press releases and articles. One easy way to get links is to do a search for your site and see if anyone mentions it without a link....Then simply ask....since they are already talking about your site, they'll usually be happy to provide a link. Don't forget friends and family who have blogs or web sites. Those are some quick examples.

That makes no sense...How exactly is a link exchange program is better than one-way links? One-way links to your site show that it's got such good content that you don't need to link back to every site that links to you. That sounds like you're promoting a link exchange. This isn't 1999 anymore...Link exchanges simply don't work because search engines have devalued massive reciprocal linking (and 3 way linking.)

It seems nobody knows exactly about linking exept Google. Google shows only 8 links to my site and all those are reciprocal.

I ask again than: why Google shows 8 backlinks(comand link:domain.com) and all those link are reciprocal. Google does not show one way inbound links that have the same age as reciprocal.

The 8 links that you see are only a random sample of your actual counted back links. If you use the webmaster tools at Webmaster Central, that will show you more of your links. It's still not all of the links that are being counted for your site, but it's a much better sampling.

Most links count for something to the search engines, regardless if they are reciprocal or not. The only trouble with reciprocating links is that, while you do gain link juice from having that link on another site, you are also in turn, losing some link juice back to that site. However, if that site is relevant to the content of your site, then it's advantages could far outweigh the disadvantages.

Right, I will be sharing some secrets today regarding getting to the number 1 spot on google and yahoo. (MSN is another issue)

1). Select a keywords that you would like to be number one for.

(In my case I would like to be number one for the keyword: Linksmaster

2).Join a few Link exchange programs. I use Linkalizer, LinkMarket and of course Linksmaster (Linksmaster is autometed)

Now, each site will ask you for the "Title" also known as (the anchor text).

This should be the keyword selected in number 1).

3) A signature on your forum replies with your keyword to, and help people on forums to help yourself get ranked for your keyword.

----Dont stop untill you are the First result on google, then move on to the next keyword ----

The above is quite basic and is more to help out beginners!

1 last tip is try not to compete on the toughest keywords, although you will get to the number one position it will take a lot longer and I know that none of you are patient !

Good luck, and see you at the top!

Link building can be done using forums, Directories ETC.

I can reccommend Linksmaster for anyone who wants to get loads of backlinks ( about 9,000 instantly ) But u must beware because search engines could get annoyed!

Links from forum with a couple of words in your posts weight nothing for Google i think. There should be good context.
