Default forum navigation problems

Just wanted you to know that as of the time of the posting of this message, there are navigation problems on the forums.

Specifically, every page needs to be refreshed before it completes.

Click on a link and the page comes down, but some element on the page is hanging. Click refresh, the page appears.

My guess is that either a web analytics server or ad server is hanging.

Yep, even posting the message caused the same hang, refresh, display series of events.

If refreshing the page fixes it, then it's more than likely trouble with your browser, or perhaps your ISP. When you hit the refresh button, it has no effect on the server at all, except that a new request is sent requesting that the web page be sent again. Try using a different browser, if you are using Firefox, try IE, and vice versa. If that doesn't help, your ISP may be cacheing sites for you, and they may have a trouble with their cache.

Um, no.

I browse multiple sites at a time. It is definitely limited to this site tonight.

I am very aware of exactly what the refresh button does and what caches do.

I just did a control-N, open in new window with my sniffer turned on. The page, which is this page, did a single request and hung, the request was for /clientscript/vbulletin_global.js?v=360

And, dollars to donuts, I bet that this is going to happen again as soon as I post this.

Yep, hung again on:

POST /newreply.php?do=postrepy&t=8913

Same place, vbulletin_global.js

Waited 20 seconds, clicked refresh

First subsequent observed operation was

GET /thread8913.html?posted=1#post45952

Did you try viewing iwebtool in another browser? Did you get the same error?

No, I get a different error generated by thumbnails.iwebtool.com/src.js

Boatloads of them, but the page completes.

The errors are mostly of the variety "foo undefined".

I think that either the .js is causing problems, either in the code itself, or if I recall correctly, the site is possibly using gzip compression. IE can get very unhappy with gzip on a slow line.

Even though the pages complete in another browser, IE still wedges specifically on this site. And IE is my choice of poison.

Well, I accept that it is not happening to everyone.

But, in the same breath, I will say that just because it is not happening for someone in particular does not mean it is only unique to me.

At least in this case, someone took the trouble to look at the .js file and to look at the connection with a sniffer.

BTW, this was not happening to me a few months ago when I made my first visits to iwebtool. I was using the exact same setup and isp.

HTH,
