On one site, I get about 10% of my traffic from Google, about 3000 hits per month. On another site, I get 80% of my traffic from Google, with about 6000 hits per month. My other sites get less than that, so I won't list them here.

Depends!
When Britney had a hair cut, this Britney bald page got a hit every minute for 24 hours as it was front page listed on a google search.
Once Google updated with articles published all over the net, the link fell to about page 7 and all the traffic dried up!

Hi everybody. I am new and I want to know how can I check the hits from Google. My server stats shows about 5000 hits per day. What does it mean? Is it good for new site (less than two month age)?

roksolana- look at your unique visitors in your statistics. That is the important number in my opinion. “Hits” counts everything. One unique user can generate multiple hits to your site. Page views are also very interesting, this will tell you how valuable your site all together is to your visitors. If you have high uniques and very low page views then people are not going deeper into your site.

enjoycarribean- the best way to get incoming traffic (I think that is what you are referring to with links) from Google is by optimizing your page for Google. Title, Metas, H1, AltTags, Keyword saturation and Inbound links are some of the major key factors in Google Search Ranking. The further you get to the top the more traffic you get.

Good Luck to both of you!

Unique visitors? In my statistics I have only 'visitors'. Is that the same?

A Unique visitor is One individual visiting your website. Total visits can be many times more the number of unique visits because one unique visitor can visit a lot of pages on your website. It's like 30 unique visitors can visit a total of 300 pages on your site (just an example).

As far as I know when logs refer to visitors and not specifically to unique visitors that it could be one visitor revisiting your site and being counted each time. I prefer to see uniques and the revisits separately. That gives me a clue on how many different people show up each day and also how many times they return which indicates how good my content is.

Do you have a special tool for this purpose or your server log provides such info?
