SEO or direct marketing?

Do we all really spend too much time mucking around trying to be the best SEO expert?Ok lets get the highest PR...great you get a 7!! So you cn sell links for $$$$.
BUT
Are we all missing the point? we want to sell from our website.
Who is going to buy? Not all the other webmasters, but "joe public".

So how does he find us??
There is the burning question.
Is it because we have a high pr?
Is it because we appear high in google/msn etc?

there are some very,very sucsessful people on the internet, so how did they do it?

I beleive the answer is a with any business....funds to promote!

You breathe in....you spend loads...you hold your breath......and wait.....was the campain good???......did it work?.........no.......spend more till it does!!!

Oh.who has the answer??

I personally think that ranking high on google can give you better results than advertising on adwords.

But, if you have money, advertising on sites that target your audience will skyrocket visits or potential buyers.

I made a lot of money on Adwords for a period. Suddenly Google changed the whole system and I had to learn how to use it all over again. In addition I wasted too much time finding profitable affiliate products.

Then I decided to start my website instead. But still I am under the spell of Google. How fine it would have been with 4 or 5 popular search engines with 20-25 percent of the market each instead.

I think seo is a direct marketing tool. You can give impressions fo your potential customers if you are good enough. The magic think in seo is the targetting in my opinion. Without creating doorway pages you need to cover as many keywords, keyphrases as you can.

SEO is only a tool to entice visitors to your site, it won't sell anything, but the content. I think a good seo must support the further tasks also in order to make visitors push the order button, or something like that.

As with any marketing, you need a balance and a mix of different marketing avenues: SEO, PPC, offline marketing, etc.

basically u can buy anything, even ranking. thats the fact that makes those successful business to ranked better than those small .com. thats the thing that keep the .com going. Money rolling

optimizing your web site is way cheaper than marketing and if you are 1st in the organic results there is no need to spend in marketing. It doesn't matter what PR you got, it matters where you come up when someone searches.
