Default HELP!!! PDF Form in Website

Hello,

I became a developer out of neccessity, switched gears from systems admin...lol doing it 2.5 yrs, and never came accross this -
Displaying PDFs are not a problem,,, editing them is and sending the PDF as a form via email is.

Small web site, HTML, customer needs a PDF form to be filled out on their site, and then emailed back to home office.

I looked all over Adobe, couldn't fine any answers,, looked all over various forums,,, not too much related, or very much activity....

We need to display a PDF which visitors edit. Then users has option of saving PDF form to local PC, or sending it directly via email....

I had suggested creating a standard web form, which would give them the data, but they want "their form" which is a PDF filled out, and emailed to them.

Can this be done. What would be involved. I need to know asap..

Thanks so much in advance... any help greatly appreciated.

Is there a reason that you don't just use HTML forms?

Hi there,

Well I think the only way a user would be able to this would be if they downloaded the PDF file from the server and edited it, and then manually e-mailed it the home office.

You see Adobe PDF (unless you purchase it) is only a reader. The editor you have to purchase, I think there are some free ones out the however.

I think jumpen is right, why don't you use basic HTML forms? PDF's would kill your bandwidth as well.

Kieran Taylor.

Hi there,

Why not write a script which allows people to send/receive the form in HTML form, and the once it is received at the home office end, have it converted?

I don't see why on earth they want it in PDF format, why don't explain the unnecessary problems they would be creating, if they are a proper business they should see that the information flow is being distorted when it could be prevented easily.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

Yeah, you could convert them into PDF once they get to you.. It would be a lot easier like this.
I just hate it when clients who have nothing to do with Programming come up with these fixed weird ideas...

You'll need a PDF Com Object installed on your server in order to do this how you want to do it.

Just do a search for 'pdf server component' there are several about, I would do you homework before purchasing and of cause if you don't have your own server ensure that you have a host that is willing to install the component first.
