Lightbulb What's next generation directory?

What do you think is the next generation directory? And what kind of features it should have for better PR ranking?

Let's say DollarLinking.com might be...
I like the idea, but I think it's yet to simple.

That's how it works.
All the links which are brought are categorised by the first letter on the listing's title. For example, if your listing title is "Free Games", then you would be automatically placed under "F". In each letter, the listings are displayed in order of highest bid first.

And maybe something from 500words. That's a list of keywords that are bought by customers.

Those sites are what I think may contribute to next generation of directories. What do you think? Please sites that might contribute to next generation of directories and explanation.

I don't agree. While the sites are a novel idea, their usefulness to internet surfers is little. Those types of site won't ever drive much traffic to other sites, their usefulness extends to the webmaster community alone. They will certainly produce some traffic, but the next generation web directory is going to be different than just a list of web sites. It will be more of a hybrid of directory and search engine.

But right now everybody is concerned only about money. They want to sell their idea but not to build useful site for users.

When link is purchased it's not purchased for traffic, it was a long time ago when it was done. Now most links are purchased for higher pr. Therefore those lists might be useful for higher pr rating.

Yes, and that is all they are useful for. But then you can gain high PR anywhere, it's not that challenging. A site that sells PR alone has nothing to sell. PR doesn't improve your result ranking, relevance does. There are very few directories selling relvance. That's why I say the future of directories isn't in the same old same old that's been going on over the previous years, selling PR, it lies in the internet surfer. We need to stop looking at PR as a means of measure, and start looking at traffic because in reality, traffic is all that is important.

Does anyone know an example of an attempt to build next generation directory?

No, because everyone is following the trend. I think iWEBTOOL's DollarLinking is pretty unique, and I think jumpenjuhosaphat's LinkSlinky will be the next thing. I can see directories like jumpenjuhosaphat's in the future, but coded in AJAX for speed.

Kieran Taylor.

If someone could create something like the new Vista feature flip-3d, i am sure it might be one of the next generation of Directories.

I like dollarlinking. nice and clean looking.

David Cheong.
