Social Bookmarking for dummies

I understand the concept of social book marking but I really do not see the long term benefits to a site, I'm I am I missing something? Can someone explain it to me in a plain language maybe I will understand better.

Has anyone received continuous quality traffic from a social book marking ?

It's amazing how few sites actually remind their visitors to bookmark their site! If you ask for a bookmark, I'm sure you increase your chances of being bookmarked at least 100%. We use a small graphic on several of main gateways to our site. As a result a huge slice of the traffic to our site is by means other than hyperlinks -- a healthy balance

Well untill this time I didn't have any english website, and now I am ready to enjoy the premium traffic.

All I have to do is to promote my directory with 100% energy and persuade my visitors to tag my site everytime they come

I think that is quite diffucult to compel people to make bookmark.

Social Bookmarking will increase traffic if you post quality article or content for your blog. Social Network is better help and you need to invite your friends as to visit your site. Just like digg.com and reedit.com we get traffic from this social bookmarking. But as of now I still dont know how effective is social bookmarking for SEO?

Stumbleupon can be very effective if you have website about something entertaining.

Not sure if this really counts, but my Cheap Cars page gets 2 or 3 visits a day from answers.yahoo.com. Some one mentioned the page when writing about where to find cheap cars. So far I don't think it has created any sales. The page links on to online databases over seized cars and repo cars.

I found this discussion about social bookmarking interesting. Perhaps Google might punish you for using social bookmarking?
