I would choose .com simply because more people recognise it. However if your website is targeted mainly towards people in India it may be worth considering .in

There is a built in preference for .com in people's minds. Billions of sites can't be wrong.

Why fight their pre conceived notions? If you're deciding on a new domain name, get one with the ".com".

If you have to ad a dash or an extra word like "(my)domain.com", do it. An extra "my" or "web" or something in the name won't hurt. But, a different ending may.

I'd always go with the .com for now. And maybe forever.

.com is the industry standard, if you don't own the .com, you might as well go sit on the bench as a backup hitter.... It was the first and still the strongest hitter in the game, always will be, this new .ws is complete crap, who do you know types in google.ws? No one, period, enough said.

I use dashes in my domain names and it doesn't make a bit of difference if you promote them right, go for .com always, if your name is taken, find something close to what you want, the dashes mean completely nothing if you do your homework and learn how to make your website a top-ranked search term for that item.

And if you do use dashes, make sure you embed that in the viewers head... WARCRAFT-POWER-GUIDES.COM for example...

It works and it makes you money. PERIOD.

Use very persuasive pictures which bring users back and they do buy from you, make the images alive, especially with a gaming site, you have to make them want to visit you again, and ALWAYS put a bookmark script on your site, I cannot stress that enough, return visitors are almost 80% of the time going to buy from you, maybe not this week, maybe not even next week, but eventually, they are going to buy the product you are selling, you want those kind of visitors don't you??

Most hosting providers allow you to "grab" the other extensions, but you know something, if you are the first, why would someone try to copy a .com with a lesser valued website? .com is the only thing worthwhile in my opinion. Do not settle for less than a .com, .net is 2nd runner up, but why do you want to be a 2nd runner up?

You should own the .com for whatever your domain name is - if you want other tld's also, get them too.
As far as .com being more expensive... it's under $10 now
