Hm, call me a critic, but:

1) The TH.com header is misleading. Our local newspaper is called the "TH", the Telegraph Herald and really - your header drives me crazy

2) What's up with the sparkly-blue banner at the top? They look like magical waves which doesn't really fit the purpose of the site...

3) They gray background is the wrong color. Try white. Then make the content background #E0E0E0 or a lighter color, #EFEFEF.

4) Arial size 12 needs to go. Make it size 10 or change the font.

5) When you CAN use text, USE IT, is my "motto" when coding web designs. The links at the top should be text with rollover effects.

6) You need more graphics! Too much text is too much to comprehend in a few moments' glance...

I definatly agree with the backround, but I'm not sure white is the way to go. Maybe a pattern of some sort *shrug*

hey , first off i'm going to start of with the text,
i would say make the font a little bit smaller , it's too big atm.
Not much , but at least a bit.

Then those links you have there , it would be nice to see some rolleovers

That doesn't take much time , and it will look alot better

Then the header , mmm , i'm not following the header, why not make something x-mas related? Make something in photoshop , with shapes of snow , etc.

Those ARE swirls of snow in a winter storm.

And I might reduce the font.

And rollovers didn't work because when I put it over the image it would take a second for the other image to load.

Use Javascript to preload the images. It's easy.
