Default Punished by Google for placing a reciprocal link

So I've been punished by Google (dropped from spot 1 or 2 on search results to page 3) for placing a reciprocal link to http://www.businessseek.biz/.

Is it possible to recover from this? I've since removed the external link.

What really ticks me off is that in the end, http://www.businessseek.biz/ didn't even bother linking me.

I've done research, and apparently if you link to any sites which Google considers 'link farms', they will severely punish your site.

I am not so sure that Google is punishing you for that link by dropping you a few spots on the serps.

Your google serp can change daily and may be moved down because of another site improving and bumping you down.

I wouldn't worry to much, check the results again in a few days.

I don't think it's necesarilly because you linked to a farm. I used to have a 5,000 page website and almost every page was on page one in google. I had TONS of links in my link page, many of which were non link related or directories. This affected me none. But honestly, I don't know if it's because my site was so large that they never dropped me. (It was an online sporting goods store.)

Yeah i don;t think Google will punish you for linking to a decent website, otherwise we'd all be banned.

Hi, Chicchi,

Please give us the URL for your website. There may be something in your code or other clue that would help figure out what happened.

Cheers,

Jim

Do you mean you knew it was a link farm and went for it? I don't think the problem is about A reciprocal link, it's rather the site you linked to.

The URL is www.wingchun.com.au

After maintaining position 1 or 2 on Google for the keyword "wing chun", within 3 days of linking to businessseek.biz, the ranking dropped at least 20-30 places.

if it's relevant and the site you're linking to is a good resource, with no unethical adverts like popups, keep the link. otherwise - u should learn your lesson! never link to a bad or irrelevant site!

i'm sure you'll recover from the effects - if google had any intention of permanently penalising you then they would surely blacklist you so as to not index you at all.

I think that there was no problem with the reciprocal link. If I were you I would remove the less important keyword from the title tag, and would collect some link containing wing chun in the anchor text. But do not use the same link text everywhere

First - how do you know that was the reason G dropped your site?

How do you know if you're in one of these link farms?
Can my competitor add my website to a link farm to drop its positioning?
