I think you assumption that you were "punished" for linking to business seek is wrong. You should look elsewhere for the reason your SERP dropped. Have you consider the possibilities that the site that now occupies your previous position had built more or better links than you?

No, Google cannot punish you for having your website linked on a bad page because you have no control over that page.

It will punish you if you put a link on your own site to another page which Google considers 'bad'. Unfortunately there's no real way to tell whether Google considers a site 'bad' unless they have dropped it from their indexes altogether!

I hate to think how many people are getting punished for linking to legitimate directory sites.

you might have a lower page rank if you link to sites with low page ranks. That's all I know for sure connected to this issue.
From a logical point of view, it's not that normal.. But, hey, these are the rules..

Hi, again,

Thanks for the link. You are not being punished. You are PR4 with significant links.

Hi,
it depends from which page you linked, but however, since you linked to a directory you lost some link power. If you linked from your jomepage then the damage is greater.I think it's very clear what google say, don't link to a page which is most a collection of links..link only to something relevant, in context of your website text.
