How Credible is PR?

Ok we work our buts off to improve PR.
So how credible are the results?

I have 2 sites i set up three months ago.
I did nothing at all to them(no time)
Hey presto last update Both PR4?

PR4 is pretty simple to get, PR5 and above are the difficult ones. You must have had a backlink from a PR4/5 to get a PR4.

What people tend to forget is that PR isn't based solely on backlinks - its a combination of backlinks, content (both quality and frequency) as well as your competition with other sites and relative keywords and phrases.

Very true. And also, as much as people tend to use PR to consider the greatness of a site, I honestly don't give a darn about PR. And no one else but google does either. There's plenty of articles out there regarding irrelevance of google PR... Page Ranking is old news and no one uses them to find the relevance of a site anymore. Frankly, whenever I see "Must be PR4 to link to us!" on any website, I chuckle and move on. For one, I build sites here and there, and my site, which is about 3 days old right now of course has a PR4, but I guarantee in 3 months with my knowledge in SEO it'll be a 5. And believe me, anyone asking me for a link back with that rule in their site isn't getting one back, just for principal. Those people don't look at the "future" value of a site, just at their PR "now". It's kind of selfish. The only reason I WON'T link to a site is if it's got poor design, and no content. Other than that, I don't care what their PR is!

The reply I posted on another thread may be more apt to your issue:

The PR is only useful for webmasters (for their ego, I tend to think, heheh), but SEM/SEO-wise, it doesn't matter all that much. You can have a site with high PR but what's more important is the amount of traffic you get for your targeted keywoard and your conversion rate--and PR has nothing to do with those.
