Midlandi, perhaps you did not realise the effectiveness of you campaign, I have seem the two websites you are referring to in in a few forums and in your signature at various forums, all this little links adds up.
If you want to experiment with a site that you did nothing at all to, set up the site, do not link to it or add it to forum signature anywhere and you will see that the site will remain PR0 and uncrawled by any search engine.
