Is there enough directories on the net?

I personally thing there is way too many directories on the net (General Directories) however there should be more niche directories, specialising on one business segment.
Do you agree or disagree with me? Please vote.

so far there are a lot general directories...there are niche directories but it just 1/100 from general directories...

Yes, far too many. One problem is that it's so easy to create a directory, that just about everyone has one. Another problem is that most directory owners don't try to improve the usability of their directories. They just simply install a script and start accepting submissions without a second thought as to what service they are providing(if any).

What do these people have to gain from having a directory?

I would have chosen "DMOZ is a waste of time" but for some reason it is not available in this poll.

I agree with Temi. I think we need more quality niche directories. Maintaining a niche dir can provide high benefits if you compete in the same sector.

Definently niche directories needed although i run one of both general and a blog directory.

I believe in the niche directories idea also. However, with a niche, you're limiting your traffic. That has it's pros and cons...

Most directories I see are sold within weeks, they aren't built to actually be a tool for someone to use like DMOZ say.

Niche directories yes, but less general directories with ads which are sold on in weeks.

Yes there are too many of them.
I think more than 100 new general directories popup every month.
I'm hoping that people start build more niches in the future.

I agree with Temi, too many directories, but not enough niche directories. Also too many directories pop up every month, then are not maintained after a few months.
