![]() | I registered something curious in my statcounter account today. Obviously someone has copied my webpages and images and started doing some "redesign". How do I stop this thief? Will it be possible to ask the search engines to stop listing his website if it looks too much like mine or use the same text? Sorry. Can't give the url now. But I can say so much that it is an affiliate website. He is probably just replacing my aff-id with his own. ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sorry there's really not much of anything you can do. All the Pirate has to do is change one line of code to avoid a lawsuit. You would be wasting your time reporting this to search engine employees The best bet would be to contact the pirates webhost in hopes he don't host his own sites. Most hosting companies frown on this. Welcome to the world of Webmasters!

![]() | I put up the message: Message to: < IP-number and broadband-ISP >! Yes, YOU!!!!! I know what you are doing. STOP COPYING MY WEBSITE, TEXTS AND IMAGES! You will not get away with it... Hopefully it will scare him somewhat. Looking at his visits after the message was put up, it looks like he has read it. He has tried to enter my frontpage several times to see if the message is still there. |

![]() | You use to be able to use the stop right click function, but browsers like firfox allows you to see the code source. There is nothing you can do to stop it at all. There is software called xxxxxzip that allows you to take a complete copy of a website and I mean a complete directory level and all. The guy could say he downloaded a FREE template and modified it to suit his needs even though it might look something very close to your site.

![]() | Thank you guys. I've been working on this website for one and a half year and "released" it in summer 2006. I've been working on the SEO since summer and would hate to destroy all the SEO work by encrypting the code. I have written almost all of the text on my own to avoid the risk of getting the whole site into the supplemental index full of other affiliate websites. I did some search for HTML protectors on the web: I am considering this one:http://www.html-protector.com/encrypt/ and this one: http://www.antssoft.com/htmlprotector/index.htm I would like to be able to disable right clicking, text copying, downloading/copying of images and downloading of whole website. But that will probably not be enough to stop Firefox and Opera users. The minimum I would do to stop the plagiarizer is to notify every Host he will try to use in the future if he dare to create a website with the stolen code. Last edited 01-30-2007 at 02:43 PM. |

![]() | Yes, there is something you can do to prevent people stealing your source code and all your hard work! For example, there are some free HTML encryptors available (search on Yahoo) that you can download. Not sure how good the free software is? You can find website protection software on my site at www.sandanco.com/products.html.

![]() | I tested that theory - I encrypted one of my pages, used the software I have to download the entire site and the page encrypted was plain as day.

![]() | Good ways mentioned so far, but determined thieves will always nick decent sites. There are loads of site rippers downloadable for free. All you can do is take as many precautions as possible and then hope for the best. Another good resource is free at: http://www.copyscape.com/ hope it helps
