Are their any legal wranglings when you try and sell a webdomain ?

I know it wouldn't really apply to Vodka.com as nobody can say they own the name Vodka.

But I have heard some news recently, in the uk, a famous footballer (Wayne Rooney) took someone to court who had registered his name .co.uk and .com and got awarded the domains as he owns the rights to the name.

Also, didn't someone do the same with Mc'ds and coke ?

Their is a lot of money to be made through registering domains and selling on, but I guarantee if I got hold of a good one, I'd be forced to hand it over to someone!!

You won't find one word anything(worth registering) still available for registering. Any domain name that sounds or resembles a registered trademark and you use in a business related to the business of the trademark, you're going to have a potential problem with... CietDoke.com would likely be one to avoid. :-)

You can fight it, it just may take some fighting. I used to have a domain name that was a Nintendo trade marked character. Sent multiple certified letters, etc. Attorney said just ignore them & don't renew the domain. That is what I did & nothing happened. Take www.nissan.com for instance. He was able to fight Nissan Motors from getting it. Though come on if he were smart he would have sold that to Nissan Motors. If vodka.com sold for 3 million Nissan.com has to be up there too, more than just Nissan Motors would be willing to pay for that I'm sure.

Just have to work out what the next big up and coming internet thing is going to be and get in there first.
