![]() | I just read on slash dot (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...40214&from=rss) that Wilipeadia is adding "no follow" attribute to external links, just wondering what members here think about it, good or bad? |

![]() | From a SEO professional's perspective, it's a bad thing. I myself have benefited from links coming from Wikipedia.

![]() ![]() ![]() | It's bad. In fact Google are going to have to re-think this sooner or later. If Wikipedia are going to nofollow links to my site, then it very much encourages me and other sites to set links to Wikipedia with nofollow also. If useful links from sites like Wikipedia have nofollow then what your left with is for Google backlinks is paid sites and SEO directories. Completely the reverse of the Google objective. Long term I think Google should 1) count every backlink for voting, nofollow or not OR 2) they could simply NOT penalise any site for a bad outgoing link and do away with the nofollow completely. 3) a third solution is to penalise sites that use nofollow. If you look around the web today sites that use nofollow on external links are generally the poor sites because there content is not fully moderated. Option 3 is possibly the best long term solution. Either way current developments are bad and require a resolution. But I doubt much will happen for a while until thinks get much worse.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Wikipedia is now imo badly run. It's no longer a tool to add information by everyone. A few people have all the power to decide on what goes on a page and they are far from fair or reasonable. I gave up on adding content a long time ago. Pity really because my input is just the sort of thing it should require and the concept of Wikipedia was originally about. This decision shows once more they are not with it. Here is a comment by a Wiki member on the subject which I agree with: Quote:
It's a quick fix, but no solution. Bad for Wiki and bad for the internet.

![]() ![]() | it's a bad thing, but anyway wikipedia doesn't like me too much. it's sad because it seems like you can't be informative AND sell stuff AND get listed there, unless you're a big player. |
