![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | They will both be counted as a back link. It is rumored thought that exchanging links gives less link weight than if the link is one way. When you add a url to a directory for instance, many of those directories place a nofollow attribute on your link, which means that the link doesn't have any link weight in the view of the Search Engines. |

![]() | Hello jumpenjuhosaphat, Thanks for your fast reply. Some questions though (newbie’s are always going to have them) 1. "Counted" - I'll guess first, and then if I'm wrong maybe you could clarify. Counted means when after x amount of time goes by I will be able to use the tools here to see if a site links to mine. 2. "Rumored" - I think I understand that if I link to a site and they don't link to me that it makes them look so good that I don't care that they don't link back. I.e. Big sites that don't have to link (FBI, Ford, GM etc) 3. "No follow" ??? - Even though my link is in a directory and is clickable to my site, that search engines don't count it as a back link? I have to tell you that I have a lot of fun trying to figure out web site stuff. I hope you have a sense of humor and will try to help me and all the members that read this post, understand an element of this business a little better, Erik

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You're spot on on items 2 and 3. By counted, I just mean that a search engine will consider that link as a vote for your website. You may or may not at some point be able to see all of the links to your site that the search engines know about. More than likely, you won't know of all of them, especially with Google. I'd like to give you some helpful advice on your travel site. Would that be okay? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, the first thing that I noticed when I went into your site was the images next to your Google ads. While Google used to allow this if there were a seperator between the images and the ads, now they don't allow images next to the ads at all. I would remove those images as soon as possible, because Google is known for banning without giving any warning first. The second thing that I noticed was a heavy usage of the word "travel". Now it's understandable that you are operating a travel site, so the word is bound to come up a few times. Now the problem with this (it's called keyword stuffing), is that search engines have a tendency to think that if you have too many keywords(keyword denisity is too high), that your site isn't truly relative to that term, but that instead you are making heavy use of the word for the benefit of the search engines. So what happens is that search engines give you a lower rank, or in some cases, they might ban you. So it's important for you to try to keep the use of keywords at a moderate level. There is a tool here at iwebtool that you can use to view keyword density. It gives you a visual idea of what keywords might look suspicious to search engines. I did a keyword density check on your site, and here are the results: KeywordCount travel41 world19 you11 traveling9 The words "travel" and "traveling" combined make up a very high percentage of your pages words. I took a look at your source code, and counted the instances of the word travel as a search engine would see it, and I came up with 75 instances of the word "travel". Your meta-keywords and meta-description are exactly the same. Search engines still make use of the meta-description data by displaying it under the pages title in the results page. Okay, those were my observations, now for my suggestions. First, make certain that you don't violate any of Googles terms of service, and fix any errors you have as fast as possible. That includes the images next to the ads and how many ads you have displayed. I think adsense only allows 3 ads per page. Next thing is to reword the body of the page so that your keyword density isn't any greater than 4 or 5 percent. Right now I'd guess keyword density for "travel" is at about 15 to 20 percent. After you do those things, then it's time to head for the top of the search engine results pages. This is the complicated part. There are pretty much 2 ways of doing things. The first way will get you banned pretty quick if you get caught doing it. That way is called spamming. It includes things like keyword stuffing, hidden text, etc. The second way is called SEO, in case you didn't already know. SEO isn't complicated, and if done right, you will see results. Ninety percent of SEO takes place on somebody else's website, believe it or not. The other 10% will take place on your site. The 90% that takes place on somebody elses site is called off page factors, and the 10% that takes place on your site is called, you guessed it, on page factors. Now as far as Google is concerned, there are at least 100 factors that go into deciding your position in the SERP's (search engine results page). If you SEO well, you will see your position will be closer to the first position. Okay, well the rest you will have to learn on your own. But don't fear, if you run into any troubles, or just need some more advice, we are always open. So get to it and hurry back to ask some more questions. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree, those directories should mention that they use the no follow attribute before you waste your time submitting to them. When my directory is functional, you will never find a link with a nofollow on my site anywhere. |

Hey travelweaver, I'd be glad to give you some advice on your site. Could you do me a favor and begin a new topic on the subject? I should have my directory functional on February 1, 2007, so anytime after that you want, you can submit your links. | |

![]() | Both counts as backlinks but one way link is certainly more valuable than link exchange. |
