| Newcomer | Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been executed by hanging at a secure facility in northern Baghdad for crimes against humanity. Iraqi TV said the execution took place just before 0600 local time (0300GMT). A representative of the prime minister and a Sunni Muslim cleric were present. Footage of him being led to the gallows was later shown on Iraqi state TV. Two co-defendants, Saddam Hussein's half-brother and a former chief judge, are to be executed at a later date. All three were sentenced to death by an Iraqi court on 5 November after a year-long trial over the 1982 killings of 148 Shias in the town of Dujail. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, I am a little two-sided with this ordeal. Capital Punishment or Imprisonment. Well the 2 can be just as bad if you take these factors in to hand. Prison (in Saddam's case) would be for life, because of the crimes he commited. In total (not just for the crimes he was tried for) he killed over 250,000 people allegedly, but not proven. Now this type of sentence would be very bad, as he would be in total lockdown in an unknown maximum security prison. Now you know the masks that Hannibal Lector wore (in the film), and the straight jackets people wear in asylums, feet and wrist cuffs - he would be wearing the lot! He would only get some of that off during sleep, eating and exercise times. Now maximum security in most cases means solitary confindment, which would be 23 hours or more, locked in his cell with 4 walls and minimal luzuries (toilet, sink, sometimes a mattress). He would have an hour or less to eat and exercise, and this is every day - for the rest of his life. They are not allowed bed sheets and mattresses in their rooms until marked safe, as a lot of these cowards commit suicide the second they get these. Despite doing the crime some can't face the time. That would be until the day he passed away. Plus I'm sure there's a lot of people who would like to get his hands on him and do horrible things. Capital Punishment on the other hand can be just as bad, although I see it myself as the easy way out, and I personally think it is there, because the Government see it as cheaper to get rid of the murderers/rapists/etc then keep the imprisoned, although that's my opinion. Imagine, being sat in a cell (and this can take years sometimes as they allow time to appeal), and knowing that you are going to be killed on a certain date, you can't prevent it, it IS going to happen to you...electric chair, lethal injection, beheading, hanging, and more. It must be very painful mentally. I think the only reason why they never imprisoned him is because of threats and chances that his followers would try to escape him at all costs, that is why he was tried and put in the U.S. for so long. And...if they waited too long for his execution and give him more than 30 days for appeal people would of tried to do the same. By the way these are based on fact and my own personal belief, so if you have your own beliefs please put them down as well. ![]() Now here is my answer (in the case of a normal person), prison, as I think all should be treat the same and some people have been executed in the past and later found innocent. Although in Saddams case, death penalty as it is too much of a risk to keep him alive, and he is simply the decades Hitler. Who knows what could of happened. Regards, Kieran Taylor. |

Is that from Saddam Hussain (through being in power) or, because of the war that went on with the U.S. and U.K. going in? Either way it is bad. Regards, Kieran Taylor. | |
