Default Different tool results from 'www' or no 'www' domain prefix.

Maybe a very stupid question this one.

When using the iWebtool backlink checker for instance, I get more links reported if I do not prefix my domain with 'www.' Also get different results on some other iWebtools.

Any answers?

It is because some of your backlinks use the www. prefixed there, and some do not use www. it mainly depends on how people link to your website

www.domain.com and domain.com are considered two different sites. Technically www.domain.com is a subdomain.

use a 301 redirect for seo purposes.

So I should disregard any backlinks that show up when I dont use www? I get more without www you see.

If you type in yourdomain.com it shows all back links. That means all with www and those without. It is a good way to see all your backlinks. If you type in www.yourdomain.com it will only show you the ones with www and leave the rest off. Hope this helps a little.
