This should help you out:

1 - Shorten the title to 55 chars
2 - Add the robots tag
3 - Place the robots.txt in your root on your server
4 - Get rid of the js in the code and put it in an external file
5 - Use css instead of color, size and font tags
5 - Change the link buttons or js links in to text links
6 - Make sure to have a site map page
7 - Make sure you have 404 page
8 - At the bottom of each page use menus as text links
9 - Make sure your page code is not bigger than 100 K
10 - Submit your site to ODP and Yahoo Dir, make sure to select the right cat
11 - Pay special attention to your content
12 - Try to get as much as relevant links you can
13 - Read each search engines guide lines and follow them strictly
14 - Don't spam
15 - Don't use doorway pages
16 - Don't cloak
17 - Always come and ask for advice on this board
18 - And pray hard that the big G appreciates all your efforts

I think it really depends on who you are focused on. Google is very link centric. I think MSN is much more sensitive and influenced by onpage content. In fact I think a bit of keyword density can really help with MSN.

I have no idea what floats Yahoo!'s boat. It remains a complete mystery to me.

I think you should really focus on making your site for your users, and then working on getting linsk to it, and you will be fine. Get the foundation first, and make a site visitors will want to stay on and potentially come back to time and time again.

you must not writing meta tag imho.i don't believe search engines look out the tags.
title must be harmonies with the site content.
robot.txt not needed.cuz robot.txt uses only "i don't want to indexing by search engines" option.if you have not one bots anyhow indexing your pages.
don't form any txt as <META NAME="googlebot" CONTENT="index, follow">

nice tip dogfaceboy... but I think linkpopularity makes a huge difference...

Though your site is perfectly optimized (k density/ keywords / meta etc..) you cant still get a good rank without inbound links.

IMO.. You can get a fine rank with just simple optimize with good huge link popularity..
