![]() | I need some help with picking a domain name. I can't really say on this public forum which two domain names that I want (secret), but I have some questions. Can certain keywords affect search engine rankings? (in url) If you have one that's long and hard to type, will it really just make customers go away? Does the site name have to make sense? If you can help me. Please please PM me! I would really appreciate the help I can get. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It can have an effect in the SERP's having dictionary words in your URL, and it also increases the value of the name. And yes, having an extremely long domain name can turn people away from typing it in, but unless you are planning on advertising somewhere like newspapers or on a business card, or on a site that doesn't allow live links, it's not that big of a deal either. You can have a domain name that means nothing, take Google for example, that is a common misspelling for a very large number (10^100) googol. Monster.com is an irrelevant name that means more to most people than some of the web's most relevant domain names do. It's called branding, and if you can accomplish it, short simple names that are easy to remember(like yahoo) don't have to make sense or even be a dictionary word. |

You might also consider a generic and brandable name. ![]() | |

![]() | You should consider getting a good name that relates to your website, but it should be short as it is more better for people to remember and stays in people's minds more, if you can't get a good name, then you will have to consider a made up name that is a good phrase

IMHO, these are the best short names that I've known. I know there are lot of nice names out there.. obani.com umrum.com looxa.com oohoi.com One thing for a generic name is you can do whatever niche you want. ![]() |

![]() | I prefer a meaningful phrase to a short meaningless word like umrum, just my 2 cents. |

![]() | Althought the name does not have to relate to the type of business your doing, it is a good idea to pick a name that tells your customers what you do. Also, pick a name that is easy to remember and not too long to type.
