Default SCAM - Please read

Hi there,

Here is an e-mail I have received, and I have in fact received it many times before. apart from being a really stupid scam, it is also damn right sick. Read this.

Quote:
Dear Friend,

Compliment Of The Season, On a very good day. I am (HASSAN MUSA),The Head of file Department in African development bank (ADB).I got your contact from tourist search. When i was searching for a foreign partner i assured of your capability and reliability to champion this businees opportunitywhen i prayed to Allah about you.In my department we discovered and abandoned Five million U.S.A dollars (us$5m) . In an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his entire family on (Monday 31st July 2000) in a plane crash.

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relationto the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines, but unfortunately we learnt that allhis supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I and one official in my department now decided to make this businness proposal to you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation tothe deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is comingfor it and we don’t want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remained unclamed after certain period of years, the money will be transfered into the Bank treasury as unclaimed fund. The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner, and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. We agree that 30 % of this money will be for you as foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account, 10 % will be set aside for expenses incured during the business and 60 % would be f or me and my woman colleague. There after i will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated.

Therefore to enable the immediate trnansfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relations or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communicationand location where the money will be remitted.Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have beenmade for thetransfer.

You should reply me immediately as soon as you receive this letter. Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Your’s faithfully,
HASSAN MUSA

The e-mail was sent from atamu16@hotmail.com and was asking my to reply to spohams@myway.com (I assume the reply e-mail address is a really unthoughtful anagram meaning "oh spams")

Please whatever you do, don't reply to this e-mail if you get it, and block these e-mail addresses from your mailbox. This has to be the most stupid spam message I have received yet  .

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

I actually got something like that, like some company whose owner is retiring and has no descendants and they want me to claim for it in Hong Kong. Then they ask for my information but never ever mentioned specifically who it was addressed to xD

I get those every other day. My wife get's them a couple of times per day. The ones I think to look out for are the ones that look authentic. My wife got one from HRBlock.com the other day, asking for her to do her taxes early. She followed the link, and it then asked for her personal information. She didn't give it, and had she it wouldn't have made a difference anyhow, because it was HRBlock.com that sent the email, but you just never know. Best thing to do is not follow any links in an email, if you need to go to that website, direct address it.

I've received a number of these spam asking for personal information. Just as jumpen said, just go to the direct address rather than clicking on the link in the e-mail.

Hi there,

I'd say the best advice, is don't trust anyone, and only open an e-mail if you were expecting it. If you wasn't don't open it. I have never received a virus through e-mail ever, and I stick by these rules and they have kept me safe.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

Hi there,

I got another one about an hour ago from the same site;

Quote:
FROM THE DESK OF MR.IDRIS MUSA.
BILL AND EXCHANGEFOREIGN REMITTANCE DEPT.
BANK OF AFRICA ( BOA)
OUAGADOUGOU, BURKINA FASO ,

Dear friend,

Compliments,

I am the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department of BANK OF AFRICA. I am writting to seek your coperation over this business deal.

In my department, I discovered an abandoned sum of$15million USD(Fifteen million US dollars)only , in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customers who died along with his entire family in a plane crash that took place in Kenya,East Africa, the Late DR. GEORGE BRUMLEY,a citizen of Atlanta,United States of America but naturalised in Burkinafaso,WestAfrica and contractor with ECOWAS,(ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES) .

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because it cannot be released unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines but unfortunately , all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to makethis businness proposal to you and release the money to you via your foreign bank account as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and this money Could go into the Bank treasury as unclaimed Bill.

The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remainedunclamed after four years, the money will betransfered into the Bank treasury as unclaimed fund. The request for your assistance and maximum co-operation as a foreign citizen to stand as the next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the deceased customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. 40 % of this money will be for you as my foreign partner, inrespect to the provision of a foreign account. 10 %will be set aside for expences incured during the business and 50 % would be for me.There after I will come over to your country for disbursement accoding to the percentages indicated.

Therefore to enable the immediate trnansfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as the relation or next of kin to the deceased, indicating your claims and wherein the money will be remitted . Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of application which you will fill and submit to the office of the foreign remittance director of the bank of africa. I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is stricly confidential and i will use my position in this Bank to effect a hitch free transfer of the fund.

You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this letter.

Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Please , visit the website below for more informations about the PlaneCrash and the tragic death of the deceased and his entire family, Late DR.GEORGE BRUMLEY.

Your’s faithfully,

MR.IDRIS MUSA
