Default Has anyone used those Warning Banners?

I hate these things, but they say they're very effective. This is not the spam, flashing, in your face kind so I wonder if they might be good to use.

Hi Rick. Seems like a very cool little tool. I'm gonna give it a try soon.

Thumbs up for giving a pointer in the right direction.

PS: I don't suppose it would be okay to have as a link signature around theses parts... unfortunately so

No, it's a horrible thing to use. It's unethical, and if you want traffic, get traffic that wants to come to your site, don't lie to try to get them there. Yeah, spyware has been detected, because you(the person offering this type of ad) are putting it there. Leave peoples computers alone. Oh, and it's worse than spam, it's adware.

Unless of course it's a banner. If thats the case, then I don't see a problem with it except that the use of the little "x" in the upper left corner must(by law) close the window, and not lead the person to your site.

I cant see these being any use, i would think everyone just closes them as they are more annoying than anything.
If im on a site and get stuff like that pop up i generally never visit the site again.

I would not condone using this as a pop up (especially a flashing one) or as an add on another site. I would probably never use it, but if I did it would strictly be as a static banner that linked to an informational page or download (on my site).

jumpen, I was not aware of the "x" law. This alone makes the point moot for me. I hope your not saying that I am putting spyware or adware on peoples computers. I hate these invaders more than spam. I have to run software everyday to clean my system because I surf the net so much. I do not and will not resort to these tactics - nor do I even know how.

Please make it clear if you are flaming me or my website.

By the way, Google is heavily involved in spyware and adware. This is why you will not see any of your Google ads on my site.

No, it wasn't intended as flaming, I was just offering my opinion.

Well, in the sense that his ads led to spyware being placed on my computer. He was saying that I was placing spyware on peoples computer but if you visit my site you will not get spyware...no matter where you click. On his website you will get spyware by following his google ads.

So I'm saying I would not use spyware producing ads like the ones on his site.

Actually, I never said that you were in fact placing adware, I advised against it. Before you go and make a fool of yourself, perhaps you should learn to read and understand meanings behind posts.

BTW, following any single Google ad does not produce an adware infecting website, that would be against Googles TOS. I don't know where the ads on my site lead, but I can assure you they do not lead to "bad" sites.

Yes, I must be an idiot to misunderstand this. "you are putting it there" must mean someone else is putting it there. How could I be so foolish.

If by "bad sites" you mean spyware sites I'm afraid your wrong. Anyone serving Google ads will be leading people to "bad sites".

"Google's Dirty Little Secret" On February 1, 2005, Google announced record revenues of $1.032 billion and profits of $303 million. Just like everyone else in the world, I was blown away. What a great company! The stock market seemed to agree since Google's stock price hit a record high after their earnings announcement.

But there's something that has been bothering me and many others in the antispyware community about the search engine juggernaut. And that's Google's ties to spyware. The Pit Blog

I clarified the generalized term "you" in the previous post so that you can understand it's meaning a little clearer. I understand how you could interperet that the way that you did, but that isn't how it was intended.

As far as adsense serving up adware, that's an interesting artilcle. But notice that PCpitstop only removed ads from the page that targeted "adware"? I don't think that sites like my sites have any worries as far as adware software, although it is a potential problem. My suggestion for those that worry about adware is to not use Internet Explorer, and run spybot S&D often. My ads don't contribute anymore to adware or spyware than does any other typical searched site would.
