If google wanted to use Gmail in the UK they should have 1) done thier research first or 2) got the trademark before the other guys. As they done neither, they don't deserve it... It's just google screwing up, And i don't see why a smaller business should pay the price for thier screw up.

![]() | Cannot see the news without logging in redherring.com Rates Technology INC (RTI) do they have a website to look at? IMO, RTI is just doing this purely for publicity as they know they can't win over Google. Yes, I'm sure Google will just buy them

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, I 100% agree with stOx. Why should a medium-sized company like 'Contensis' have to sell out to Google. Google should of done the research before hand and noticed that the domain was already in use, Google I'm sure are too proud to admit that they made a really stupid mistake, and they know it. I'm sure 'Contensis' would of appreciated it a little bit more if Google approached them before the idea of Gmail and offered them a deal for the domain. Instead Google go and do something stupid like that. Although people (and sometime myself) have to remember that Google as a whole never made this mistake, it was Google research teams. Google itself is one of the best companies in the world. They were bound to make a silly mistake like this at some point. Although $5 billion is a rather hefty amount, maybe it won't come to this and it will get settled out of court. Never mind. "Do no evil". Regards, Kieran Taylor. |

![]() | That's really a big money. Hope google could handle it. There are other VoIP applications around. But why is it that they're only sueing google? Is google the richest among the others? ___________________ Get your Australia Visa |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, Because Google in a sense stole the service from the smaller company. Google are the ones which committed the crime. *Edit* Sorry black pearl I was answering to a question that changed the thread about the Gmail VS Google Mail dispute, as for the VOIP case I am unaware. *Edit* Regards, Kieran Taylor. In 2005 Google’s revenues were over $6 billion on which they earned about $1.5 billion in net income. This is a far cry from larger companies like ExxonMobile which made over $25 billion profit. But in just a short time Google has increased its value to over $110 billion, So the obvious question is - how can Google make so much money? Well, Google makes most of its money through the sale of ads. In fact, of the company’s $6.2 billion in revenue in 2005, over $6 billion is from the ads. Imagine that - Google can make so much money from ads which cost from a few pennies, to a few dollars per click. But it’s not just the ads which help influence its value. Sure it makes most of its money from the ads, but Google’s share price is also strong and has been since it went public. Google’s shares are now worth over $350 each. Considering they opened at between $80 and $100 per share you can see how much the company has earned just from selling shares in itself. And the value of those shares is largely determined by the revenue earned from advertising. If we make some assumptions we can guess the traffic generated by Google. For example, if we assume the average cost per click is a quarter (25 cents) then Google received about 24 billion ad clicks. That works out to about 60 million paid clicks per day, which means Google earns about $15 million per day on paid advertising! ![]() | |
