On Wednesday, IBM and Yahoo! announced the launch of their new entry-level enterprise search software geared mainly toward small- and medium-sized businesses.
According to IBM, the new software—dubbed the IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition—will be free for businesses to download starting today and will offer features such as automatic spelling correction, wildcard support to substitute for unknown characters, query reporting, and graphical user interface customization.
Marc Andrews, director of search strategy for IBM, said the new software will be also be integrated with Yahoo!'s standard Internet search, and will provide users the ability to access any of Yahoo's web, image, video, audio, and directory services.
"Just being able to find and access information is only the first step," said Andrews. "Organizations today are struggling to use that information more effectively. Once they find it, they want to leverage and process that information—to use and extract knowledge buried within it."
"With the OmniFind Yahoo! Edition, searching through lists of customer concerns or a call center's logs will be much easier," Andrews added. "Companies can really use this information to flip around their business processes."
