Default Why does google show 0 when I use link:mysite.com

Hi.

I have just started to look at my google stuff and try to increase page rank and so on. but i honestly dont understand a single thing that google tells me.

When I search link:serial-box.net nothing comes up. I know for a fact that there are at least 20 sites that have a link to my website either inside content or listed in sidebars and so on. When I check yahoo or something else, I get a list of 687.. when I check google.. i get 0?

Also.. google says the last time a googlebot crawled my page was november 16th.. and the cache image they have for my site is old. howcome its not updating properly?

Am i doing something wrong?

thanks

backlinks are updated about 4 times a year.

Google doesnt update the cache or index instantly after spidering the site. It takes some time.

Always google will show less than msn and yahoo. Use yahoo or msn to check your backlinks.

msn and yahoo are the best to check your links as google take time to update it.

and don't forget that Google shows only relevant inbound links, whereas on AltaVista/Yahoo and Msn you can find all inbound links, even from blog comments.

Try adding a space after link:, like this...

link: serial-box.net

Hi there,

Adding a space does not work, and it is not a valid Google search sintax, if you look closely it will search for the keyword/keyphrase = "link" "example.com" - "link example.com", so really you will be getting false results.

If you want to see backlink results use Yahoo!.

Kieran Taylor.

Google only shows the sample of your linkbacks
It never shows how many links your site has

So dont worry if they are less there

For linkback you can check it on yahoo or msn
They will show you the exact number

Andy Cooper
