Default DIVs on different browsers

I've been trying to embrace designing web pages using DIVs instead of tables, as they are easier to control and provide an additional layer of presentation separation (layout from content).

However, I see the layouts often look different on IE, FF, and Opera. Is there a guide on the how-tos and the gotchas of designing for these browsers? I feel like I'm back in 1998 designing websites using Frontpage.... if any of you still remember the nightmares.

Default Re: DIVs on different browsers

Yeah, it's true, DIV's expand differently in IE than they do in compliant browsers. But there isn't a work around that I know of unless you know the exact size that the DIV will need to be, because when using percentages(%) to determine the height of a DIV in CSS, IE does it different.

My suggestion is to just keep messing with it, and you'll come up with something that looks nice and is designed right.
