![]() | Our website was orginally built inside a template provided by our host. The word processing is worse then a 1964 typewriter and I want to get the site out of the template. Every time we update the site in the whats called web builder we have to publish and it deletes all of the meta tags. We got tired of re posting our tags and started updating in the html public file which published to the internet when saved but it does not create a file that we can back up via the host. We have had to back up the site by making a copy and pasting each page to notepad. We copied the site and have loaded it on Frontpage recently and made alot of improvements to the site. How do we load the site to our host and what would be the best way to go about updates and backups. The host has FTP file and Frontpage is also offered we just can't seem to get alot of answers and don't want to chance crashing the site. Thanks for any Advice you may have it is greatly appreciated.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You could load the new pages via FTP, if you have a FTP program. FTP, in case you didn't know, is kind of like windows explorer, so you can drag and drop the files that you want to upload. The best thing to do is to back up the site before you upload the new files to your server. That way, if something is amiss, you have a recovery method in place. If you are hosted on a cPanel host, you can click on the backup icon and download your files and databases to your home computer. If you don't have cPanel hosting, might I suggest to you to change you hosting provider. I don't mean this in a bad way, but from the sounds of it, you might consider hiring someone to help you, or perhaps, if you have enough time, you can pick up some web design techniques by reading some online tutorials. |

![]() | Your web host should provide the help you require. It should be as simple as uploading the new site to a new folder within your web directory. Then using directory indexing to point to the new folder for the landing page. |

![]() | Stop using "web builder" and design your site offline in Frontpage or whatever HTML editor you want. (I also suggest a Content Management system like Joomla or, even, WordPress). If using Frontpage, make sure Frontpage extensions are enabled on your webhost. When your new site is ready, delete all the old files (or overwrite them, if you're not comfortable doing that), and via FTP (built into Frontpage, I think) upload your new ones to your webhosting account. If your host does not allow you to do the above, switch hosts. It might actually be better to get a new host already and upload your new site from scratch there - once up, then just switch your nameservers and delete the old account altogether. |

![]() | First step: Get an inoculation against the nested tables plague (don't use nested tables). Step two: Learn basic XHTML and CSS. You could build a much better site with beginner knowledge. Go to www.w3schools.com Files can be downloaded the same way they are uploaded. Download all files to folder on desktop and you have a backup. |

![]() | I would prefer to handcode the website myself. I have recently started learning web designing and its quite good fun to say the least. |
