![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This is a shout out to everyone who keeps up with the latest SEO trends. Has anyone heard about the -30 penalty? I was just reading about it in an SEO forum. Apparently there isn’t much known about WHY it is applied, but they say it works like this: if your webpage is currently riding at #2 for a certain keyword term, for example, it will abruptly be dumped to 32 in the Google rankings, losing 30 positions overnight. Webmasters seem to be taking it seriously as there have been many confirmed instances, but still no explanation on what they did to incur Google’s wrath. Have any of you experienced this? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I keep detailed records of many of my keywords. Never had a drop of 30 places. I've had all sorts of strange unexplained things. Once I have a keyword combination at the #7 position it suddenly dropped to #468! It stayed there for five days, then it shot back up to #11, today it's at #6. Can't offer any explaination for such things at all. No change in backlinks and always checked against the same datacenter. I think just take a long term view on such things.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, You have to remember that Google searches through billions of websites, your keyword density and place in the serps is bound to sometime move a little less natural, but that's the webmasters game. And you say it is confirmed? But is it by Google. People who drop from #2 to number #32 will simply be a co-insidence...just think of it this way - why would Google want to do that? Regards, Kieran Taylor. |

Unfortunately that is a question people rarely ask themselves.

![]() | Me personally never notice any drops that big ... maybe one place but nothing more.. Then again I don't use masses of keywords.

![]() | I can only confirm something as a -30 penalty. We have had a site up and had some products on it. It was indexed and ranked for a few words and was number 1 for the www.????????.com. After some time we added 1000s of products and almost instantly dropped on the domain name to 31 and have been their ever since. The strange thing is that if I leave the www off on my query we still rank top. Our keywords were not affected at all. Maybe this was just a warning wink from Google for adding tons of content. It was exactly 30 and it did not go up and down to eventually land their. |

![]() ![]() | What SEO forum did you read this on? A reputable one? Or one full of quacks? I can't think of any reason why google would want to to do this, so i have to conclude that they don't do this. What probably happened is a couple of people just happened to drop 30 places, they put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.
