| Regular Member | Do people out here design there sites keeping in mind broswer compatibility. Online when you look for css, they have css hacks for IE4,5,6 NS4,5,6 and FF. Do we have to take so much care that we have to design our sites to be compatible with IE4!! I wonder how many people use it anyways IMO, I'd create my design to be compatible to only 2 browsers, IE6 and FF. Is there something wrong with that?

![]() | I develop fro corrrect rendering in standards compliant browsers. Then I fix it for IE, trying to avoid hack; you can generally twisted it a little without going out of standard. The ai review it for accessibility and look to see if it will degrade nicely in fringe browsers. It is futile to start form IE because the biggest issues are not between IE and FF things get screwed up everytime MS put out a new browser and it is not backward compatible with previous versions without hacks.

| Junior Guru | I would like to help work on a application for internet browsers that would be make all browsers show the same thing...if anybody knows how to program such as this I would love to join you in this, but seeming this is impossible (maybe not to make, but for people to use), I might as well only dream about it. Why? All browsers are different they come from different manufacturers, they are optimized differently, and they are marketed to differently. They don't look the same for the same reasons a Toyota does not look liek a Jaguar. The developers job is not to make the look the same. The developers job is to give all users a good experience with the browser they are using. So you code to standard and the modern browsers apply their own optimization, and behave well. The you apply the necessary tweaks and twists necessary to make the rest behave, and sometimes you are forced to use a hack. Trying to make them look the same is futile. Trying to make them all render accepable presentation is not difficult if you start with standard code and then apply the deviations necessary to support the weak browser like IE.
