![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Being a carpenter, I've had my share of near misses when using a table saw. In fact, once while cutting some 2 3/8" rubber wheels down to 2" wide, the saw grabbed the wheel, and pulled my hand in with it. The blade went straight up the center of my index finger on my left hand, and cut halfway through my thumb. While at the emergency room, the doctor told me about a saw that when running a hot dog through it, the blade would stop immediately, and the hot dog would only be knicked. I thought that sounded nice, but he said it cost like $5,000. Whew. This all happened 3 years ago, and just today I came across a website selling such a saw, and I finally got to experience a demonstration of this saw in action, so I thought I'd share it with all who are interested. The price? Only $2,800. Not bad considering fixing my fingers ran about $2,000. Replacing them would cost a whole sight more than that, if replacement were only possible. The page is http://www.sawstop.com and the video is the third video down on the left of the page. It's a pretty amazing bit of technology. |

| Senior Member | Dang, that's pretty cool... uses electrical singles on the end of the blade to detect changes...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Flesh conducts electricity better than does wood. So when contact is made, there is a sensor that senses that the blade has been grounded. I don't really know, I'm just guessing. |
