Default Domain Trends error

I signed up for the Domain Trends program and entered a new Google API .

I copy and pasted the long API code but when I update Domain Trends I keep getting this error:

Google Backlinks: Exception from service object: Invalid authorization key:

But the key shown is identical to what I copied from Google (double checked it several times).

The error page had a "contact us' link but after wasting my time writing an email and sending it, the support person replied that I should post on the forums. (Why not put a link to the forum on the error page instead of a link to an email form?)

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? Is it the Domain Trends software or Google's API key?

Thanks.

Strange indeed... I have an old Google API key and it worked out.

Maybe you've copied excess blank space in the beginning or at the end of a key?

That's what I thought but I recopied and repasted twice and even visually (ouch-that'll hurt the eyes) checked the Google key I had against what shows up in the error window. They match.
