Suggestion: rid off PM's characters limitation

Hello iWebTool webmasters!

I've got a suggestion.

In my opinion it would be much better if you could remove a restriction to the number of characters in Personal Messages.

This would allow then:

To see a full chat with all messages with a person including his previous messages in the same chat (using quotes). – This would be very comfortable.
And this would allow me to send my first usual message with all details about the services I provide in one message  (it’s 5557 characters long).

In my opinion there is absolutely no need in that restriction, many other very popular and very huge forums do not have that limitation.

I would personally highly appreciate if you could fix that.

And I also add a poll to see what do other members of this forum think?

I beleive the reason that the limitations are in place is to curb SPAM. It's by no means to stop SPAM, but it limits what they are able to do.

Hi there,

No. Definitely no. People would be sending spam advertisements all the time. I am not saying that it won't change, but I would be a bit cautious if it did. You can also chat using the quote system, me and Chulium the other day sent about 15 messages back and forth with the full conversation quoted.

Restrictions are good it stops people taking advantage, maybe we could extend the limit but using a 5000+ PM is uneccassary, it would probably time-out through sending it

If you want to send lengthy messages e-mail them

In your post you've summarised the reason the PM limit should stay.

We don't want to be spammed in our personal inboxes by guys like you spouting off about the services you offer and invading our privacy.

If you post in the forums we can ignore it, but not if you PM constantly.

Please admin stand your ground on this one.

We can all link in sigs and advertise in appropriate forums.

I've not received any spam by pm on this forum, in fact I'm a member of many forums with thousands of members.
I've only ever once received a spam pm.
The spam was one line with a link. About 40 chacters total.

Therefore, limitiation on length of pm is imo unnecessary.
If this site is concerned about spam, then an easy way to report spam on the forum would be the way forward. It doesn't have that and I've seen sapam on the forum, although it does have moderators who seem to do a good job.

Rather, spam ads could be sent in pieces (more than 1 PM) instead of just 1 message... and could increase it - if it really *was* that long, anyway.

I would think that PM spam here is very low - why add restrictions before there is a problem? I say raise the limit.

PM's are for Private Messages correct ?
Not lenthly detailed not needed messages.
If you have something to say that will not fit into a pm then as correctly said use Email

1. Regarding emails:

They are not always available, as not all people enable "allow receiving emails from users" option.
Those people, interested in our services, did not actually ask to send the details to their email. They ask to send a PM! (So it's kind wrong to send it using email)

2. In regards to SPAM.

A limitation in 5000 characters WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT prevent spammers from sending their messages in no way.
