Default Whats the biggest mistake you have ever made

What’s the biggest mistakes you have ever made when trying to rank well in google msn yahoo etc

what’s the biggest mistake you have made for search engine optimisation or even just trying to get traffic to your site?

Mine have to be:

wasting far too much time doing the following:

-looking at my Serps rank (every day)
-looking at my adsense,
-looking at my traffic,

but not building content, or increasing my links!

Content is what it’s all about

I'd like to learn from other ppls mistakes to

I have to say that I continue to make the same mistakes. I am very interested in my status, but the problem is I expect it to change overnight, and it seldom does.

Another mistake I have made is I drown myself in ideas and plans to the point that I lose motivation in all of them because I become overwhelmed with the work load. I am still learning, and will always be, and that is a lesson I'm beginning to understand...Take it slow, be patient, and only try to do one thing at a time.

Hi there,

My worst mistake was when I owned a successful website before, and I launched it way too early, and Google crawled it not exactly how I would of liked. It was search engine friendly and everything but was just not as good as it should of been.

I advice people to wait until their site is done, unless they are in testing phase or something.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

Hmm intresting, did you let it crawl a password section or something

I found the other way round, I waited to long to submit and get backlinks, and then found there is an ageing delay on google, so would have probably have wanted to submit earlier! I guess it depends on the site though. It could look a bit unprofesional if people look at a half built site, but i feel my site is never complete and never will be, im always upgrading bits.

Ideas are a good thing, there’s no such thing as too many its just prioritising them that is the important part. Never loose motivation, stick with a few of your best ideas and it will pay of in the long run (IMO)

Cool Re: Whats the biggest mistake you have ever made

My biggest mistake was getting banned by Google. Here is the tale:

http://www.tigertom.com/writes-about/Banned-by-Google.shtml

My girlfriend said she had never seen me look so ashen, that day. It's a mistake to get too involved in the minutae of webmastering. Also, don't listen to the 'get high fast make money with Adsense' merchants.

There are some good tips out there. Article spam isn't one of them.

My latest mistake was using Wordpress as a diary for my site, and expecting Google to index it as it would any other web page. In the end I had to commission a special theme to bash Wordpress into submission.

Aaaandddd .... In future, I shall be asking myself: 'Could I do this just as easily in plain HTML?'. It's no joke having to shift 10 MySQL databases in a hurry from a failing webhost.

Ummmm ....

It's 12.30am here.

Goodnight!

not making the links name similar to content.. for example you have a page content like " design tutorials bla..." name the page like design_tutorials.html or php or whatever .. thi would be a search engine friendly page name

The biggest mistake i made was telling the wife
"yes your bum does look big in that"

Seriously though! I set up a decent reseller business through a "cheap" provider through ebay.Loads of downtime, very very slow response. Then they vanished! NICE !!!
Managed to recover some business, but of course lost loads due to customer "lack of confidece" in me.
Moral
Cheap isnt always the best option.
Own server...the best!

I'm sure you'll be able to start again and create a successful website!
At least you had the experience of creating one.

My mistake was using blackhat techniques. It was great luck that my sites weren't be banned.
