I am curious as to how you think that killed your site.

about a month after i started automated link exchages i started recieving no hits from google after getting 100+ a day.

this is what matt cutts said about automated link exchanges/excessive reiprocols
Quote:
The sites that fit “no pages in Bigdaddy” criteria were sites where our algorithms had very low trust in the inlinks or the outlinks of that site. Examples that might cause that include excessive reciprocal links, linking to spammy neighborhoods on the web, or link buying/selling. The Bigdaddy update is independent of our supplemental results, so when Bigdaddy didn’t select pages from a site, that would expose more supplemental results for a site.

Large scale link exchanges can kill a site stone dead and drop all pages off google or put them into the suplimental index.

i had the same problem a few years ago. i then changed all my websites pages name to content and got really better results in search engines.

do you know if having directories also helps??

like, is it better to have this:

http://www.site.com/photo/photo-afri...os-africa.html ?? is this to much?

would it be better just to have

www.site.com/photos/africa/photos.html ??

or just www.site.com/photos-africa.html ??

thank you

my mistakes were:

-give my domain address to one auto-link listing at addme and a few others. my website didnt change page rank for almost one year, didnt pass 2...

i tried to identify which fast listing websites i used to list my site and exclude it. got 50% success, others just dont exclude my websites and still send me nasty emails...

2- i got a few more quality back links and more content, and now my website is ready to rise PR5 i hope!

another recent mistake:

i insert css display:none to all my websites... hehe dumb ass i am... i and just a few months after realized the stupidity i did. so now im deleting all those codes and taking all hidden text away from the websites. i have to say that it did increase my google position and visitors, but i'm afraid it will not be for long. so better to fix it.

one stupid mistake
got banned from google adsense campaign

yes how stupid I am? why? cos i thought google tecs are not inteligent and knew what i was doing... hehe, so now i have lots of websites in which i could have great income from google adworks, and i don't. got excluded just in 2 weeks... so now i learned the mistake and wouldn't do it again cos i can actually have profit from it if i play it simple and ethical.

do you guys know if i can be addmited again in the adworks campain?

joaoleitao, if you want to be in it for the long haul, it's best to be as honest as possible for the get go. I'm glad to see that you have seen the errors in your ways. Good for you.

My bigger mistake has been to start too many projects at the same time & I got lost in the montain of work needed. Once I realised that, I have concentrated myself on one thing at the time but well. I've learned that starting many projects at the same time require too much time, too much money or both.

I believe that what don't kill you make you stronger... learning from our mistakes make us stronger :-)

I don't have a site so far, only planning. And that's a great thread to learn from!
