How can you tell what keywords are popular?

How can you tell what keywords are popular?

Is there a program that does this?
My keyword is "poker" but i will never get to the top 3 pages of that keyword in google.
I am thinking to target something like "freerolls" ..

Any ideas welcome.. Thanks in advance

There are websites that you can go to. Google trends offers up a link to an incredible keyword research tool. I'm sorry, I can't give any links, my bookmarks are all gone cause my harddrive was wiped out, but I have given links to 2 great tools in the past, maybe you will have some luck in finding them.

You can use Overture's bidding tool to look up how much people are bidding on various keywords. The higher they bid, the more popular the phrases.

Also, have a look for SEOTools.com (I think), they have some neat stuff.

ranking well for terms doesnt matter if they dont convert, metric software can identify what words work and convert, those are going to be better than relying on some tool that shows you how much traffic they get.

Google offers this tool:

You can see popularity of keywords, advertiser competition and Google can give you recommendations for new keywords, based on your input.

You dont need an AdSense or AdWords account to use the tool.

Almost at the bottom of the page there are 2 text boxes. One for their keyword tool and the other links to Overture. You can get a bit of a comparison of searches done and related keywords as well. I used that to determine my Exactseek keyword for a sponsored listing.

Selecting and Positioning Target Keywords.
People search for stuff on the internet by typing certain words in the search box. Words that are relevant to your website are your target keywords. Your job is to make sure those target keywords appear on the crucial locations on your website such as across your title, meta tags, and body of your web page.This target keywords should be popular so that it can increase traffic to your website.

Tip: Your target keywords should include at least two words. This is simply because lots of websites are relevant for a single word, for example "flower".

i dont think that its actually possible to know what keywords are popular (i mean an ordered list of keywords) unless you have access to googles database.
