| Regular Member | Do any of you have any experience with sites linking to each other, which share the same ip address? I have multiple sites hosted with the same hosts, and each of the sites ofcourse have the same IP address. In theory two sites could share the same server but not have the same owners, therefore their links would be valid. Any thoughts on this? Thanks...

| Member | Well there is a rumor going on that google is starting to crack down on this - websites with the same IP address but different domain names linking to eachother. It's pretty obvious anyone doing this is creating artificial linking. For the time being I wouldn't worry about it. I actually think Matt Cutt's blog had something about this. Maybe check out his site? ![]()

Well yes i think it should be valid as u said it urself that same server can host 2 sites without any connection whatsoever by mere faith. So i dont think google or anyone should care about that and if they do proper invetigation be done before jumping to conclusions.

![]() | My understanding is that they discount links from the same ip address. You will not get penalized for it, but you will not receive full backlink value for it either. I have seen some people say that this penalty extends all the way to the c-block level. So if any site on the same class-c address links to you it will be partially or even fully discounted as a backlink. I am currently planning on expanding my project to at least one other host, and potentially other ips down the road. Not sure if it will provide me much backlink benefit or not, but I will be able to play around with it a bit. |

| Regular Member | So, if someone hosts his sites on his home server, all of his sites must not have any links to his other sites?! Thts pretty bad i guess

No. There are lots of reasons to link to your own sites. If they are relevant and/or related then users might click on the links. Remember to make your sites for visitors first. Search engines should always come later. Anyways this is the adsense forum and having links to your own sites will not impact adsense in any way. In terms of search engines, they will just be discounted. You will not be penalized for having them, so it is still good to use them. | |
