Hello,

Does anyone have any great tips on the selection of meta tags and keywords?? I have a freelancer site that has heavy competition and need to be as noticable as them, any ideas or sites i can visit??

To to make sure that your meta tags match the keywords used in the site and in the headers (H1 tags) and title. The idea is to present a very uniform picture to search engines.

Also, don't rely on meta tags to get you into search engines. The better your PR - the better your SERP.

As far as I know PR is for Google search engine only. Yahoo, MSN use their own strategy. Anyway all these engines use meta keywords, and meta descriptions. The difference is only weights used for indexing. Also I've heard rumors that google now uses bigger weight for meta tags values also.

Make sure you have your main keywords in your meta="Description" and meta="Keywords" mentioned first. As for keyword suggestions you may try http://www.iwebtool.com/keyword_lookup/. I found this very usefull.

Yeah, only Google has pagerank.. And they don't order serps by PR, High PR does not equal higer serps.

Your description meta tag could sometimes be used in the serps as sample text, But most search engines completely ignor the keyword meta tags. Don't worry too much about meta tags, Just write good content and you will rank well and get backlinks over time.
