Default PHP or ASP

I know that there is probably no definitive answer, but
does it matter in search engine optimization whether you use PHP or ASP for your CMS.

Look forward to hearing your ideas.

Their isn't a right or wrong answer to this question, but if I was you I would go for .php. I'm not sure about SEO and php / asp, but when you search for something on a search engine you seem to find more .php pages than .asp pages. Also, I think it is easier .

Just a thought, but could it be possible that we see more .php pages because more people are firmiliar with PHP? I can't name anyone of my friends who use ASP, but who knows maybe my thoughts are biased as I only code PHP

However, in terms of SEO, there isn't any particular reason to use one over the other. (As long as your URL's are well formed)

I'm just saying that you see a lot more php pages than asp pages, and I think php is easier.

Hi there,

I think the reason why there are more PHP pages on the Internet is because a lot of people prefer cPanel hosting, and cPanel is only available to people who use Linux Servers, Linux Servers support PHP but not ASP, I think that may be the reason, don't go by my word though, I don't know whether PHP is more SEF than ASP.

That's my opinion though.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

I agree with all of you guys but i wanted to add one more point.
PHP hosting is far more cheaper then ASP hosting.

But i guess the main reason is that PHP is easier to learn then ASP.

BTW I have impression that google prefers .htm and .html pages over any other form of page.

I would say they are both the same as far as SEO so just go for the best CMS you can find, wither PHP or ASP.

No, it doesn't matter whether you use PHP or ASP. In fact, in the web server configuration tools, actual PHP files can have .ASP extensions and vice versa. The reason why many more people choose PHP over ASP is purely because PHP is not only better in so many ways, but is so much more affordable. Most hosting companies may give ASP cheaply, but the SQL Server database involved doesn't come cheap. Besides, a linux shell allows so much more flexibility, compared to ASP especially when you require a new com object to be installed. Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Keller

Well, I'll go for PHP.
PHP with apache mod_rewrite make easier to write search engine friendly url for your site. I'm sure that in ASP there should be similar solution for this, but it might involving third party component and might not as easy as PHP

mod_rewrite has hardly got anything to do with php. it's a feature of ur HTTPS... IIS [which is most commonly used in conjunction with ASP] also has a similar feature.
