Question Confused Backlink Result..

To check backlinks in google i used to enter "link:www.mydomain.com"
and it list on 7 and if i enter "link : www.mydomain.com" it list about 37.
what is the correct way to check backlinks with different search engines.
Ofcourse i know several link_popularity_check tools. All display results according to their data centers.

Don't use google to check back links as they only list a small fraction of them.

Same problem with my site, better use yahoo and msn to check your backlinks. For my site, link:www.hkhangfong.com has no result.

I had the same problem. There is a difference in link:www.mydomain.com and link:<space>www.mydomain.com. See the conversation thread http://www.iwebtool.com/talk/thread5698.html in the Marketing and promotion discussions.

The link:www.mydomain.com at MSN and linkdomain:www.mydomain.com at Yahoo give more results probably because MSN and yahoo both see to have more aggressive bots.

this is just my thought on this,
If you will look at the search result on link:www.anysite.com the links are direct mentioning your site that is clickable if you go to the site mentioning it. but the one with space between link: and www, you will notice that it a text only not clickable mentioning your site. go figure.

Google only list links that are higher than PR5 and more than 2-3 months.

Yeah why not get a tool to use here or even check your page strength at seomoz? Thats an even more in depth view of backlinks to your pages.
