Default A good domain name

How long does it take you guys to find a good domain available to register? I mean, nowadays 99.9% of the good domains are taken. Almost every time you think of a domain, it is a high probable chance it's taken.

When I think of a new idea, it can take hours for someone like me to come up with a good domain. Do you have any pointers while finding a domain? Perhaps something to remember when searching for domains?

Default Re: A good domain name

What I do is spend the hours necessary to find my domain names. During that process(I use GoDaddy.com), I jot down some of the alternate ideas that are displayed. The best domain I have ever found was officiallost. Who'd have thought that with a show as popular as Lost is in America that that domain would still be available? Oh, and sometimes I have my wife help me search too, and she can come up with some pretty good ones on her own.

There is a tool that I found that will tell you all of the available 4 letter .com domains that are unregistered, but I can't quite remember where I found it at. There are 35,000 or so 4 letter .com's still available, but most of them are useless.

Another thing that I do is use a thesaurasis(spelling) to come up with some great alternate words. For instance: If I want to portray a high level of security and comfort, I would first look up words that defined high level, like extreme, so I would come up with a word like Ambient. Then I would look up secure or safe, and I might come up with a word like asylum, but I don't like that word, so I keep looking, and come up with Harbor. And there you have it---Ambient Harbor. This is a true example by the way, Ambient Harbor Homes was a construction company that I began while living in Colorado.

I hope that helps you.

Depends whether you want a short or long name. I guess a few years ago if you saw youtube.com as a name you wouldn't have thought very much of it!

There are some domain name generators out there - one on uk2.net that generate name combinations - just don't buy the domain from them. They may look cheap until you find all the hidden costs.

The name doesn't make business anyway... so the next best world brand could be "xc17", xc17.com is free also

what kind of domain name you looking for. Sometimes people resell domain name with good price. Try been looking on their website or whois script.
I got few domain name to sell, first need to find which category of domain name you looking for.

Depends on how much your time is worth. Your resources may be better spend on buying one rather than spending weeks to find a good one to register.

its hard to find a good domain name with typein traffic. BUT if you are looking for one to start a site, memorable names are still out there, just not SE optimized with the right keywords.

Try looking at expired/expiring domain names for inspiration.

I think when you choose a domain you want it to be connected with the business you are in. You may add some words to the keyword of your domain and reg it at the registrar.

I think that if you are looking for a new domain name or something of that nature you should first put in what you want your domain name to be, and if that is not available, you could try different names like .com/.net/.org/.us/ (something like that until you find what name you are looking for)

Best Regards,

For my domain name I added a number at the end, as with e-mail accounts with the most popular providers this opens a lot of new options...
